Who are we ?
We are a small society of like-minded individuals that have come together to do
what we can to help solve the distressing consequences of pet overpopulation in
the communities of Iroquois Falls, Cochrane, Matheson and surrounding areas. Every
year, in North America, between 14 and 15 million pets are put to death
because there are no homes for them. Yet, every year, millions of new puppies
and kittens continue to be born to face the same fate. THERE IS A SOLUTION ! Join
the millions of responsible pet owners who work individually, and through organizations
like ours, to promote the importance of NEUTERING and SPAYING PETS.

What does NOAWS offer to our northern communities ?
- Foster Home Program - Since our community has no animal
shelter, NOAWS, together with animal loving members of the community, care for
abandoned animals until good permanent homes are found. Foster homes provide shelter,
love and basic training to homeless animals, while the society provides medical
care, food and supplies (when funds are available). Donations of food and supplies
are always needed, and sometimes provided by generous individuals or businesses.
Because the costs associated with fostering must be covered by the organization,
we are always in need of good foster homes, dog houses, litter boxes, etc.
- Adoption Programs - The animals that are in the society's care are
placed with responsible pet owners who offer a life-long commitment to their animal
companions, and who agree to neuter/spay the adopted pet (if it has not already
been done). Prospective owners answer an adoption questionnaire, which enables
the adoption coordinator match u new owners and homeless animals. No animal may
be passed to another owner without the express permission of the Society. The
Society also maintains a registry of animals for adoption, for members of the
public who wish to place an animal up for adoption, or who may be looking for
a family pet.
- Education Programs - Quarterly newsletter
filled with interesting tidbits, articles, poems, and happenings within the Society
is circulated locally free of charge. Society members also visit schools, senior
citizen residences, and other local organizations to inform and respond to questions
regarding pet welfare, pet care, spaying and neutering, etc.

The society actively participates in helping reunite lost
animals and their owners.
Any allegations of animal abuse from concerned community
members are forwarded to the OPP or the Timmins District Humane Society for investigation.
- Note: The OPP are the official agents of the Ontario Humane Society
in our community, and by law respond to reports of neglect and cruelty to animals.

Fund-Raising
To date, NOAWS receives no funds or grants of any kind from any level
of government. The costs of services and care of homeless animals are covered
through: - Regular fund-raising activities
- Private donations
- Adoption
fees
- Occasional corporate donations
Community
Partnership
If the ongoing demands for assistance are to be answered,
it is clear that a partnership is needed between the communities and NOAWS. Many
kind individuals will respond initially to the plight of an animal in distress,
but, what do they do next ? Very often, they turn to us for the long-term
solution. But, we are only a few trying to copy with a big problem. WE NEED YOUR
HELP !
